Simplicity

‘Less is more’ was a catch cry of design (a phrase adopted in 1947 by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe).
‘Tis the gift to be simple,(an old Quaker dancing/way of life song).
We are often filled with a longing to caste off the excess ‘stuff’, to end difficult relationships,
to move house, in an effort to simplify our lives. We may assume a meeker demeanour,
play down our natural talents, shy away from tasks that may put us in the spotlight,
in order to be seen as humble and Christian. Simplicity is rather the acceptance of God’s gifts
used to glorify our Creator and when we ‘find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight’.

O Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things  too great and too marvellous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother;
 my soul is like the weaned child that is with me.
Psalm 131: 1-2

Mothers’ Union has a deep-rooted and trusted position within communities in Tanzania.
This week we pray for those members, both skilled and trained in resource mobilisation,
who will encourage and equip those unsure of themselves.
