Captivity

The precautions put in place to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic
have given many of us an experience of captivity. For some there have been opportunities for creativity
and reaching out to neighbours and those less fortunate. For others resentment, frustration and fear are uppermost.
When we are captive to such negative impulses we close the door to our inner resources and, most importantly, to God.
Seek O seek the Lord, while he is near. Trust him, speak to him in prayer and he will hear. TiS 464

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
 and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then it was said among the nations,
 “The Lord has done great things for them.
Psalm 126:1-2

For those living in the captivity of loneliness, a member in the diocese of Derry and Raphoe, All Ireland,
began a Widows’ Friendship Group. She ran monthly meetings in her own home until the age of 90.
Then her ministry was taken up by Cathedral House.
Now transport, refreshments and helpers support those who are lonely.
