Unity in Diversity

‘Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves…
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn’

(Romans 12:10,15).

We live in a world of aloneness. Family life is so often broken and people who are close
will not even speak to each other. I experienced that in my birth family.
Our church should be, and usually is, a contrast to this.
One of the best things you can do for your health is to belong to a church.
But this is so only if the church family loves and cares for each other.
One test of this is to look and see how well we care for those who are different and those who are suffering.
Some people find that when they go through severe loss, such as the death of a child,
their fellow Christians avoid them rather than stand close to them, praying for them and caring for them.
One of the chief marks of a real church is the love that prays and cares.

Question: Do I love those in my church who are lonely, suffering, or different?

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the many Mothers Union members throughout Nigeria.
We particularly pray for the diocese of Umuahia and Ijebu.
We pray for members in their many activities as they reach out to widows and orphans,
to prisons, and to families as they run parenting programs.
Bless their times of prayer and sharing your Word. Amen.
