Mothers Union, Past, Present and Future
Mothers Union was born out of compassion for those on the margins of society,
in the tradition of Christianity which itself came alive
as Jesus walked among the lepers and praised the Samaritans.
We do our best reflection when looking at the radical past
and seeing how that translates into today’s society and culture.
Mary Sumner took Jesus’s words, ‘the prophets told you… BUT I tell you’ Matt 5-8
and applied them to the young women who were used
and abused by the business leaders and condemned by the church.
Jesus taught a ‘New Righteousness” in the Sermon on the Mount.
May Mothers Union continue to face society with Christian love and action.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely,
and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith,
Hebrews 12: 1-3
Let us pray for the diocese of Aipo Ronga in PNG and for their active Mothers’ Union.
While traditional ways of life are recognised, the future is being shaped by an all girl choir,
‘Friends of Jesus’, and the celebration of Mother Dorothy Siep’s
graduation as Bachelor of Education with Honours. Thanks be to God.
