Fair Trade issues

Lord Jesus, think on me, by care and woe oppressed;
Let me your loving servant be, and taste your promised rest.

Giving someone a ‘fair go’ is an Aussie virtue and it is VERY Christian.
Jesus Christ preached and taught that the generosity of God is boundless,
unfettered by tribal and national and religious convention.
The more we care for others, the less oppressed we will be by the restrictions of convention.
How we act for the benefit of others is a challenge that requires an effort to purchase goods that will
bring dignity and worth to the makers whether in the next town or a village in another continent.

The field of the poor may yield much food, but it is swept away through injustice.
Proverbs 13:23

Self-reliance is one of the three Mothers Union global themes.
People’s ability to build self-reliance depends firstly on opportunity.
Women in the Democratic Republic of Congo have difficulty owning property and/or growing a
business because of low literacy rates. Mother Union ran its Christmas appeal to increase
their opportunities in education and self-reliance.
